Chindia Tower
The complex of monuments which form the Royal Court of Targoviste represents one of the most important architectural group from Tara Romaneasca (the Romanian Country) and has a great artistical and historical value. Located in the north-west side of the Royal Court and dominating the entire complex of monuments from here, the Chindia tower ("the Sunset Tower" ) build In the days of Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler) became the town of Targoviste's emblem and was used for surveillance and defence .
Poienari Fortress
Located on the top of the mountain, Poenari Fortress, is a former residence of Vlad Tepes (also called Dracula), built as a fortress against the Ottoman invaders. There is a road of over 1000 steps that leads to the fortress. Although it is just a ruin, one can take spectacular photos of the Vidraru Dam and Fagaras Mountains.
Vidraru Dam
Located on the bank of the Arges River, , Vidraru Dam is considered by specialists a real jewelry of engineering. It was built, with many human sacrifices (about 80 persons lost their lives during its construction) between 1961 and 1966. At the completion date, it ranked 5th in Europe, and 9th in the world.
Curtea de Arges Monastery
Curtea de Arges Monastery is the most important pilgrimage and prayer place in the county of Arges, with the "Assumption of the Virgin" as its dedication day. Founded in the time of voivode Neagoe Basarab, between 1512 and 1517, the monastery is a part of the most famous Romanian legend, "The legend of master Manole". The relics of Saint Filofteea, parts of the relics of Saints Serghie, Vach and martyr Tatiana and the Great Saturday Gospel Resurrection, written in gold by Queen Elizabeth can also be found inside the monastery. The mortal remains of Kings Ferdinand and Carol I and Queens Elisabeth and Maria rest here as well.
